CHARACTER INFO
Character: Tadashi Hamada
Canon: Big Hero 6, just after he's run into the fire but before his death
Age: 20
Background Information: Hey, I'm not giving up on you.
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Upon meeting Tadashi most people will recognize that he's a kind individual. Even if they're complete strangers, he will take the time to get to know someone, or help them out if they need it. He will go out of his way for them because he is a firm believer that when people need help, someone should help them. If that person is him, then so be it. Tadashi is actually a fairly gentle soul. The soothing balm in a world where people might not always be so nice in return. He attempts to not mistreat someone just because they're a jerk. Though that doesn't always apply when that individual is threatening physical harm. It's his way of making the world a better place. Be the change he wants to help create in the world.
Due to the fact that their parents died when they were still young, and they were taken in by their aunt who had no parenting experience, Tadashi took it upon himself to become the responsible big brother for Hiro. It doesn't extend to just Hiro, but Hiro is his main priority. Tadashi will drop everything to bail his little brother out of trouble in the middle of night. He even plays small tricks on Hiro to try and help him down a better path in life. It's something he would do for any of his friends, too. This makes him reliable when a friend is in need of help, not just his family. While he may have a lot of responsibility, Tadashi doesn't forget his role as just being a brother and a friend. There are times when he simply jokes around with Hiro and his friends, lightly encouraging them and taking an interest in what they're most passionate about. If they need it, he will be there to never give up on them and encourage them to work smarter, along with working harder.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
His first and foremost goal is to help his family, to support them in all they do and pick them up when they're down. When he discovers that Hiro is going bot fighting, Tadashi puts a tracker in his hoodies so that he can always find his brother and get him out of trouble. Even taking Hiro to his "nerd school" and show him that there's still more he can learn and do with his life. Tadashi tries to make his aunt's life a little easier too, by helping out where he can. This also extends to his friends, encouraging Fred's disgusting habit of wearing his underwear in many different ways. His friends also seem to have heard a lot about Hiro, as Honey Lemon was able to recognize him on the teen's first visit to the lab.
Beyond his small circle of friends, Tadashi wants to help as many people as he possibly can. This was the thought behind the Baymax project. While an army of Baymaxes would be great in a hospital setting, the robot was designed as a personal healthcare companion. This means that had Tadashi lived to see his project through to the very end, Baymax could have become a household item in every typical home. Baymax could have become something that was sold all over the world and distributed to places where healthcare isn't easily available to the population. Tadashi has a big enough heart to care about people he hasn't even met yet or may never meet.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Since Tadashi has this desire to help the whole world, it means that he can be pretty reckless. He didn't hesitate to place himself between Hiro and a mob boss with his goons, or run towards a building on fire. This part of him is what did actually result in his death, as Tadashi ran headfirst into that fire to try to save his teacher. "Someone needs to help" may be a good way to look at the world, but it means that Tadashi will risk his life trying to help that person. This belief he has also has the ability to inspire others to follow in his footsteps, as after his death, Hiro flew into an unstable portal to try and save someone. While Hiro was successful in his attempt to rescue that person, it did result in the temporary sacrifice of Baymax.
Even if he knows the truth about the fire and all that happened surrounding it, it likely won't be something that Tadashi regrets entirely. He will feel like his heart was in the right place, at the very least, but he will realize that he did mess up in the fact that he essentially left Hiro to go on without him. This will make him a bit more cautious going forward, but Tadashi will still try to help people who need it, even if he gets hurt in the process.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
- Tadashi's part of the room is very neat and orderly, though his lab at school is more of a mess.
- Tadashi let his brother squish him into a corner of their shared room, just so Hiro could have more space.
- He is the original creator of Baymax, going through 84 attempts to get it right. Each test was recorded.
- Hiro was doing his homework at three years old and finishing his robotics projects at a very young age.
- Enjoys haunted houses and took Hiro to them every Halloween.
- The brothers have rules as part of their "exclusive club" that they established when they were younger.
- Often worked on home robotics projects together.
Abilities & Inventory:
No extraordinary powers here, just a typical guy with a good grasp on science and robotics. Tadashi is actually the creator of a personal healthcare companion called Baymax. This is a project he's been working on from the ground up and did a majority of it by himself, only going to others when he absolutely needs to. Not only did Tadashi build the robot, he also programmed it. It took him 84 attempts to get Baymax to the point where he no longer had huge faults in his programming, but Tadashi never gave up. Considering all of the work he put into his creation, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if he came out of it with knowledge of some basic first aid (not to mention having his little brother go out to dangerous bot fights).
He's got mad moped driving skills. Not only is he a relatively good driver, Tadashi could compete in the Moped World Cup Series with his capabilities. He can drive right up to people without hitting them, pull 180s on the ground or take it up a poorly made ramp and get serious air. But hey, he always makes sure that helmets are worn.
Tadashi does know a little bit of karate and is physically fit for being a nerd. While he can't accomplish inhuman feats, he can at least take care of himself and even his brother on occasion. He also knows how to play soccer as it's something Hiro plays, and Hiro didn't exactly have a lot of friends to pal around with growing up.
- His clothes (minus hat bc I'm mean in my canon point)
- His wallet, keys, and phone

ARMADA SELECTION
Paladin. Tadashi is 100% on the side of helping people and doing good in the world, trying to make the world a better place against all odds. While there are some good Corsairs out there, Tadashi is the sort of person who even tries to get Hiro to not break the law with his bot-fighting.

Baymax
Truthfully, Baymax was created to be just as kind as Tadashi. To help anyone who requires assistance, regardless of whether they do bad things or not - such as when Baymax wants to help the "criminals" Big Hero 6 fights. The robot does follow his programming, but Baymax is so much more beyond that and can expand on how to interact with humans. Baymax is a sense of calm in a storm of chaos, excellent for the most dangerous or deadly of situations. This allows him to react to a situation without panicking, coming up with simple solutions - though with a touch of humor. He also can refuse an order to open his port to remove the healthcare chip that takes away this part of him for the more violent Superhero chic Hiro made him. When on low battery, Baymax appears to act like someone who is drunk - unstable on his feet, unable to control the volume of his voice, and seems to lose control over what he says. Baymax is very straight-forward, naive, but with the curiosity to learn - even going so far as to download information on a subject or adding new unconventional "treatments" to his healthcare database. Despite all of the information he has added, Baymax did not originally understand how a person in extremely good health could be dead.
Abilities
Multilingualism:
English is currently set to be the first language of Baymax (as he was the prototype), but he can speak in other languages.
Superhuman strength:
He was built to carry up to 1,000 pounds of weight. However, this doesn't mean Baymax is fast or built solidly enough to break things, not without the armor Hiro designed for him.
Data storage:
Baymax has a lot of medical procedures stored upon a single chip, with still room to add more. He can download every single online source of information to his data storage, such as when he downloaded all the information he could find on puberty. There are also three other slots in his data port where even more chips can be added - one has previously been filled with Hiro's superhero chip.
Medical knowledge:
He has 10,000 medical procedures programmed into his coding, anything from basic first aid to surgical procedures, and mental well-being.
Display screen:
There is a display screen on his chest, which allows him to show images or videos that he recorded. When he downloads information, it also flashes every page and source.
Medical Equipment:
Tadashi loaded Baymax up with a lot of medical equipment, such as defibrillators in his hands and anti-bacterial spray from his fingertip. His eyes are hyperspectral cameras that can view everything about a patient, and even x-ray them to determine what their health status is. With Hiro's helmet upgrade, his scanner works 1000% more and can scan the whole city in one go. Baymax has both a heating and cooling system that allows his vinyl interior to either warm up to help raise body temperature or cool down to lower it. He has a swiss army knife as one of his fingers that has a variety of tools, while another is a hypodermic needle that can be loaded with a variety of chemicals such as an antihistamine, with yet another being a scalpel. He has a band-aid dispenser and can produce lollipops for good patients.
Audio recorder and player:
He can record audio and video, then play them back.
Extinguisher:
One of his fingers is a fire extinguisher to help put out fires.
Flashlight:
His hands can become flashlights.
Lie Detector:
Due to being able to read people's heart rates and scan their eyes, he can tell when someone is lying. This can be enhanced.
Expanding Neck:
He can technically extend his neck to make himself taller, though this doesn't serve much purpose.
Super Capacitor Battery: This was not the original battery that was in Baymax to power him, it was an upgrade made by Hiro when he rebuilt Baymax after Tadashi's death. It's what allows Baymax to go mobile for several hours and perform his many tasks. The super capacitor battery charges a lot faster than the original battery Tadashi put in.
Weaknesses
Low Battery: As stated above, Baymax does run off a battery - which means that he can only be active and moving about for a certain length of time.
Slow Movement:
Baymax was not designed to move fast, his short legs are proof of that. It means that he is vulnerable to attacks without his armor.
Vinyl Body:
He was designed to be squishy and huggable, as such the vinyl can easily be pierced - leaving him with just his exoskeleton. The exoskeleton is actually quite durable underneath.
Charging Travel Case
His charging station is essentially a suitcase on wheels, allowing someone to move him from place to place with ease. Baymax deflates his vinyl body and his exoskeleton compresses to fit inside. Only deactivating when his patient says "I am satisfied with my care" and activating to a sound of pain. He can stand in the base of it to recharge.
